Patricia Lee Bindert daughter of Floyd and Ivah Schortau Lawless, was born December 31, 1938, at Sumner, Iowa. She received her education in the West Union Schools, graduating from West Union High School in 1957.
On May 16, 1958, she was united in marriage with August Bindert at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye. Pat worked at the Good Samaritan Home in West Union from September 17, 1971, until retiring May 19, 2006. In retirement she enjoyed working in the bakery at Moore’s Food in West Union.
Following a lengthy illness, Pat’s death occurred Sunday, April 8, 2012, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union. She was seventy-three years old and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and had served on the Community board. She enjoyed golf, fishing, gardening, crocheting, and most especially, the time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, August of Hawkeye, she is survived by two sons, Faron (Laura) Bindert of Strawberry Point and Rowdy (Lisa) Bindert of Esko, Minnesota; one daughter, Carla Bindert of Iowa Falls; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; her mother, Ivah Lawless of West Union; three brothers, James (Diane) Lawless of Evansdale, Kenneth (Mary) Lawless of West Union, and Jeff (Theresa) Lawless of Bassett, Iowa; one sister, Connie (Ron) Schlatter of Wichita, Kansas; and one sister-in-law, Gloria Lawless of Garwin.
She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd and one brother, Darold.
Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye with Rev. David R. Nelson officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding services at the church on Wednesday. Private family committal services will take place at Hawkeye Cemetery at a later date. The family suggests that friends may make memorials to the Asbury Hospitality House in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
